Our Mission
Beer in South Africa exists to celebrate, preserve, and share the incredible diversity of South African beer culture. From the ancient traditions of umqombothi brewing to the innovative craft beer movement, we believe every aspect of our brewing heritage deserves recognition and exploration.
We serve both local enthusiasts seeking to deepen their knowledge and international visitors wanting to understand what makes South African beer culture unique. Our goal is to be the definitive resource for anyone interested in the flavours, stories, and people behind South African beer.
Meet the Editor
BiBi
I've spent 35 years working in the South African beer industry as a client of one of the country's biggest beverage manufacturers. That gives me direct access to brewmaster insights, product launch data, and an inside view of how beer gets made, marketed, and distributed across South Africa.
Outside of beer, I keep bees — yes, bees and beers. It gives me a particular appreciation for the botanical ingredients that make South African brewing unique: fynbos, honeybush, rooibos, and wild yeasts.
I also host the Beer with Bibi podcast on Spotify and create video content on my YouTube channel. Everything on this site is written, reviewed, or edited by me. If I haven't tasted it, visited it, or verified it, it doesn't go on the site.
