Gilroy's Brewery

Gilroy's Brewery in Paulshof is a Joburg institution — an award-winning pub, restaurant and microbrewery built around founder Steve Gilroy's uncompromising approach to beer. The house ales are brewed naturally, without preservatives, to Irish purity principles: low natural carbonation, and a deliberate balance of malty sweetness against aromatic bitterness. As the man himself puts it, it tastes like real beer because it is real beer.

The venue trades Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays), with live entertainment and a full pub kitchen, and it's one of the most-reviewed craft venues in the province — a 4.5-star rating across more than 1,000 Google reviews.
